Celebrating Black History Alice H Parker

Celebrating Black History Alice H Parker

So in this segment, we're going to talk about Alice H Parker, who in 1919, patented the central air furnace. It was designed to run on natural gas and is very similar to the central air units that we know and use today. Today there is a little more technology. Back then it was even on or off. But after she made this invention, it allowed us to make bigger homes. If you look at a lot of the older colonials that were built before 1930, they had multiple fireplaces to heat the entire house. With this invention, we were allowed to use just one fireplace, often just for decorative purposes.
